Description of issue

Why does brew doctor reported I am missing icu4u@76 even though I have already installed icu4c@77 ? Furthermore, icu4c@76 was reported as deprecated.

Something on your system still requires it. icu4c@77 and icu4c@76 are not interchangeable. What's the output of brew uses --installed icu4c@76?

For what it's worth, using icu4c@77 returns the following list:

chafa           gtk+3           libass          putty           vhs
epubcheck       img2pdf         librsvg         tika
ghostscript     jing-trang      openslide       unpaper

Short of manually checking the dependencies of each formula, is there a way to determine which have been updated to newer versions?

Some formulae require specific versions of another formula; in this specific case, at least one formula depends on icu4c@76 specifically for some reason (and therefore cannot use icu4c@77, or any other version of icu4c, or substitute their dependence on icu4c@76 with a physical bottle of pineapple-flavored hard seltzer either).

brew uses --installed icu4c@76
